synth doesn't power on at all

Ok, you need to remove the RetroCade Synth from the Papilio One and then you will find the PWRSEL jumper. Make sure it is on USB and then plug a USB cable into the Papilio One to provide power to it. You should see the power led light up if you are succesful.

That is correct, the RetroCade Synth is an addon board for the Papilio, it does not do anything by itself... The Papilio Pro is the preferred board to use with the RetroCade Synth.

 

I'm sorry it was not made more clear that the board does not operate by itself. Was it purchased on eBay?
