Guest monkeydoo
I've recently tried to use the Papilio "Wing Template" as found in the Playground Section. I'm new to Eagle so go easy on me! I simply opened the template schematic, copy and pasted the header component on to my design. This seems to work OK. The problem is the component footprint also contains the holes present on the Papilio boards. I know how to create custom symbols/packages/devices in Eagle, but how do I get that footprint into a library so I can remove the holes? Apologies if this is OT as it's more an Eagle issue. Cheers, Ian
Jack Gassett
Ian, No problem at all, its fun to help out with EAGLE. I actually cleaned up the template files a little bit, please download the latest version from github. The easiest way to get rid of the anchor hole is to do the following: [list type=decimal] [*]Right click on the Wing Header component (the origin for the component is in the upper left hand corner of the board) and choose, "Package". [*]In the package dialog select "Wing8Wing8_NOHOLES" under the device column. This will use a different footprint that does not have a hole. The updated download also includes the library file. But, for future reference, if you ever have an EAGLE file without the library file you can easily recreate the library file. You just need to run the "exp-project-lbr.ulp" ULP from the schematic view. Jack.
Guest Rudzz
Jack, When I had the boards made for the audio codec design, I used the 8-bit template. The holes for the pin headers were too small. The spacing was correct, but i couldn't fit a standard pin header in the holes, had to solder them on the surface since they wouldn't go through. Do you know of this? Is it a problem with the footprint in the template? And is it fixed in this updated library file? Thanks, -John
Jack Gassett
Hello John, I just double checked, and yes I made the drill holes larger. At one point I made them smaller for the original Papilio One design and it was just a little too small in some cases. In the latest files I increased the drill size to .04" which is what the pinhead library uses for its drill sizes. Jack.
