nsk_reddy_1234 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2014 Hi!I am interested in this product. Is it possible to implement Microblaze based system in LX9. Also I would like to have TFT LCD Display. Do you have winds for TFT Interface.
Jack Gassett 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2014 In fact, someone made a very nice tutorial about implementing the free Microblaze MCS on the Papilio:http://www.gadgetfactory.net/2014/03/microblaze-mcs-step-by-step-tutorial-for-the-papilio/http://www.gadgetfactory.net/2014/03/microblaze-mcs-attaching-peripherals/ While we do not have a TFT Wing in production at the moment we have made one work:http://www.gadgetfactory.net/2011/10/experimentation-with-tft-touchscreens/ Attached is the Open Source PCB design if you would like to get some made. Spartan 6 does not support SDRAM interface, it only support DDR, DDR2 and LPDDR. Xilinx EDK does not support the SDRAM on Papilio Pro Board. Kindly clarify
Jack Gassett 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2014 Microblaze MCS is a free version of the Microblaze Soft Processor that does not have any memory interfaces. It is just meant to be used stand alone. If you want to get into generating your own version of Microblaze with a memory interface and even more features then you need the $500 EDK software. When I first made the Papilio Pro I tried to use an evaluation version of the EDK to make a simple memory test using Microblaze and at that time I can confirm that there was no Spartan 6 SDRAM controller. I did read that you could hand build a Microblaze soft processor by pulling the SDRAM controller out of an earlier version of the EDK and targeted for another chip. But that would be quite some work... Jack.

May be you have to add anothjer power rail for 2.5 V for DDR. I think it would not be much harder to do it. 54-pin as well as 66-pin package would occupy the same board space according to datasheet. thankyou.
Jack Gassett 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2014 Not for the Papilio Pro, but there may be a BGA based board that we will start development on soon. It will use DDR and the hard memory controller built into the higher end Spartan 6 boards. Jack.

offroad 14 Report post Posted April 21, 2014 Isn't it so that the memory controller hardware is missing from the LX9 in the non-BGA package?Maybe somebody already succeeded to take it into use, that would prove the opposite.
alex 21 Report post Posted April 21, 2014 Correct. The LX9 has built in MCB cores but they are only connected to external pins in BGA packages.
alvieboy 25 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 I am using the MCB on the ZPUino port to Pipistrello. Works.
offroad 14 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 >> Pipistrellosure it does... because Pipistrello uses the 324 BGA package :-) >> FPGA: Spartan-6 LX9, LX16, LX25 or LX45 in 324 BGA package
