Papillio with framebuffer SRAM

Recommended Posts

Guest bkraz

Hello, I am new to FPGA development, but have learned that an easy way to build a 640x480 framebuffer for monochrome bitmap display via VGA would be with SRAM.  I like the inspiration of the Papilio idea -- making FPGA dev as easy as possible.  I also noticed there is an SRAM Papilio wing in development.  When will these wings be available for sale?  Does anyone else have some suggestions for simple bitmap displays?  My application will populate the framebuffer slowly from reading sensor data.

Hi bkraz,

I've a few VGA cores than can be used with any wishbone-compatible CPU/sequencer.

as I understand you only need a monochrome output. For 640x480 that means 38Kbytes RAM, if you actually need to use all those bits.

Are you building something like an oscilloscope ?
