Creating RAM and loading it with data

5 posts in this topic

I'd be interested to see the best techniques for creating blocks of RAM. Related to that, it would interesting to see how that memory can be loaded with data. Specifically, I'm thinking about RAM for a simple processor and how to load programs for it, like you're doing with the Papilio IDE.

Ok,

This will make a great tutorial, I'll plan on making a video for this but I'm not sure how soon I can get to it.

Jack.

I am also quite interested in doing this.  One of the applications I would like to try is to do some elementary image processing on an image about 500KB in size.

Is there already some documentation on this somewhere?  Not necessarily screencasts..

Jack, do you want me to knock a quick how-to for this? I've become an expert (well, done it once).

- How to set BRAM contents in a "vdhl" file

- How to update BRAM contents in a ".bit" file

- How to set BRAM contents in an IP BRAM core

It would be very greatly appreciated! We can post it to the Papilio Playground, or if you want you can do the tutorial on a new section in the Playground. Or whatever is easiest for you, if you just want to make the tutorial however is easiest for you I'll get it posted once it is done.

Once again, thank you! I'm sure everyone will appreciate it, I wasn't going to get to it very soon.

Jack.
