Atari joystick ports

It would be wonderful to adapt this for use in arcade cabinets!

I believe there is an FPGA-based Atari computer system, though I don't recall the URL.

I miss the Atari 400/800 games, those machine were notable for making the

4-port 9-pin Joystick option.

Are there enough IO pins to make this work?

I'm partial to Joust and Defender, so a 6809 soft core would be a nice add-on as well.

Hello,

This Atari 2600 project has released the source code Open Source and should be portable:

I think we could even make a cartridge adapter pretty easily as well.

I'll have to look up the 4-port 9-pin Joystick scheme, I think there should be enough I/O pins to support 4 joysticks. I'm releasing a prototype version of the Papilio Arcade in the next week or so that is a bit wasteful of pins but the plan is to make the final Wing make efficient use of pins in order to leave as much I/O available as possible.

Donkey Kong, Joust, and Defender were my favorite games so I'm also pretty keen to get those up and working some how some way.

Keep watching the blog for posts about a prototype system being available soon.

Jack.
